Somerville, MA woman rescued from three-alarm fire
Somerville firefighters rescued a trapped woman and evacuated other occupants from a three-alarm blaze in a triple-decker home near Magoun Square Sunday night.
The blaze broke out shortly before 6:30 p.m. Somerville Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher said efforts to put out the fire at 111 Glenwood Road were complicated when a live electrical wire dropped from the house and landed on a ladder truck, electrifying the vehicle.
It took 15 minutes before firefighters were able to shut down the power and use the ladder truck again, he said.
The house was heavily damaged, with suffered extensive damage. The heat from the flames was so powerful that the siding on from the house next to it melted, officials said.
The woman initially trapped on the second floor of the house, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital. Her condition was not immediately known.
