Nine killed in Belgian retirement home
Nine people were killed in a fire that broke out in a retirement home in the Belgian town of Melle, according to news reports. Sources claim that the fire was started by an overheating fan on the first floor. At the Kanunnik Triest home, where approximately 90 seniors live, most of those who were overcome were asleep at the 8pm hour when the fire was reported.
By the time the emergency services arrived at the scene, flames were leaping out of the windows and it was impossible to reach some of the victims, witnesses said.
