Weston, MA private school burns down
A four-alarm blaze at The Gifford School in Weston, MA (see map) was reported at about 6 a.m. Wednesday. The cause was ruled by state officials to be accidental, and due to combustible materials close to an open flame in the school’s kitchen igniting.
In addition to the Weston fire departments, the fire brought crew in from neighboring Natick, Sudbury, Wellesley, Watertown and Wayland. No one was reported to have been injured.
The school is a co-educational day school that serves about 100 students with learning and behavioral challenges.
Television images show a large building on the 26-acre campus fully involved with flames shooting into the air. Broadcast reports say the flames could be seen for miles. The roof of the main school building collapsed.
