Convent Fire in West Sussex, England

A fire broke out an empty convent in West Sussex, requiring nearly 100 firefighters to tackle the ensuing blaze. West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was dispatched to the Carmelite convent, where they were quickly joined by a nearby crew from from Chichester.

A water carrier was used, and pumping was apparently required from nearby water sources. 44 firefighters wore breathing apparatus for an offensive attack that successfully prevented the fire from spreading to the main building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with arson apparently not been ruled out as a possibility.
